Read how one participant worked with Ambitions and The Education Business Partnership to land his dream job as a gardener.
Our young person had been unemployed since leaving college and was claiming Universal Credit from Job Centre Plus. He was keen to get full time employment in gardening or horticulture but was struggling to get to the interview stage of the recruitment process.
The project officer and participant got straight to work with intensive job searching around the key phrase ‘ground maintenance’. It soon became apparent that our young person was struggling to really sell himself on the application forms, so a comprehensive personal statement was developed. This could then be altered accordingly to fit with the relevant job application. After this, the focus turned to general interview preparation to build our participant’s confidence.
Persistence soon led to some great results. One of his applications for a ground’s person role invited him to interview. To ensure he was ready for this specific interview the project officer did some tailored preparation with him. We are happy to say he got the job and is now happily employed a gardener for a holiday park in Cornwall.
