Our Workshop to Success participants enjoyed a really positive visit from Keith Hill, who is a Team Leader at King’s Service Centre.
King’s Service Centre is the home to an innovative and forward thinking technology team that supports the services of King’s College London. Keith told our participants how Cornishman Gareth Wright (Director of IT Services at Kings College London) saw the opportunity to improve job vacancies in Cornwall, essentially giving something back to the area.
Keith told our participants how he made the switch from middle management in Sainsbury’s to Kings College London and has never looked back. Whilst Keith may not be as techy as some of his colleagues, he loves where he works and enjoyed telling our young people the different opportunities that exist at Kings Service Centre. Keith detailed what a normal day looks like for a Service Desk Customer Advisor, what systems they use to get the job done and why.
He then went into the recruitment process and the kind of qualifications and skills the institution looks for in potential employees. Our young people found this incredibly useful and he then went to explain the apprenticeship scheme. He even stressed that he would love all 3 of our young people to get some work experience by joining his team and working alongside him personally!
